If you have ever done an internet search for a private investigator, you have no doubt seen hundreds of PI's and investigation agencies appear on your screen. How do you know who to use? Well, start by calling around a bit. Most good reputable investigation agencies will be more than happy to give you a free consultation and go over your problem or concern with you. Next, look for experience by asking about your investigator's background and qualifications. For example, at Security Specialists all of our investigators are prior law enforcement personnel with loads of investigative experience.


As far a pricing goes, it is common for investigators to ask for a retainer depending on what the job or investigation will entail. However, the service is usually billed hourly, unless you are needing something very specific in which case there may be a flat rate fee. In any case, much of the cost will depend on your particular needs--hence the consultation.


Lastly, before making a decision, ensure that your investigator or agency is licensed with the state. In Arizona, licensure is handled by the Arizona Department of Public Safety. They also maintain complaint records on the licensee which you can inquire about prior to signing on with any private investigator or PI agency.
